Yes, according to Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, Yunus had expressed a desire to visit India before his trip to China. Alam stated that Bangladesh had requested a bilateral visit to India as early as December 2024, weeks before Yunus’s China visit was finalized. However, India did not provide a positive response to this request. As a result, Yunus proceeded with his scheduled visit to China, which began on March 26, 2025, where he is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and promote Bangladesh as a destination for Chinese investment. Alam also noted that Bangladesh has made another request for a meeting between Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the upcoming BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok on April 3-4, 2025, and is awaiting India’s response.
