Godrej Aerospace Delivers Initial Kaveri Modul Godrej Aerospace delivering Kaveri engine modules to the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE). Based on available information, Godrej Aerospace, a division of Godrej & Boyce, has indeed been involved in manufacturing modules for a derivative of the Kaveri engine, a project led by GTRE under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This specific variant, often referred to as the “Dry Kaveri,” is a 48 kN thrust engine without an afterburner, intended for use in unmanned aerial vehicles, such as the Ghatak stealth UCAV.
Contract and Delivery Timeline
In September 2022, Godrej Aerospace secured a contract to produce eight modules for this engine. Reports indicate that the first two modules have been delivered, with the remaining six scheduled for completion in 2025. This aligns with GTRE’s timeline to finalize testing and certification of the engine by late 2025 or early 2026, including in-flight trials on a Russian Ilyushin Il-76 testbed. The collaboration marks a significant step in India’s pursuit of indigenous aerospace technology, with Godrej Aerospace’s progress reflecting the growing role of private industry in India’s defense sector, supporting initiatives like “Make in India.”
