In recent developments, India and Sri Lanka have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral relations. During a two-day state visit to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake are expected to sign multiple agreements focusing on energy, defense, digitalization, security, and healthcare. A notable initiative is the groundbreaking of a 120-megawatt solar power plant, a joint venture between India’s National Thermal Power Corporation and Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board, aiming to bolster Sri Lanka’s renewable energy capacity. This collaboration also reflects efforts to counter China’s growing influence in the region.

On the international recognition front, Prime Minister Modi has been honored with Kuwait’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer’, in recognition of his efforts to strengthen India-Kuwait relations. This accolade places him among distinguished recipients such as former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush. Additionally, during his visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Modi was conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, the highest civilian honor of Mauritius, making him the first Indian leader to receive this distinction. He dedicated this award to the enduring friendship between India and Mauritius, as well as to the people of both nations.
