Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared her intention to return to Bangladesh and ensure justice for her supporters who have faced persecution. In a recent virtual interaction with family members of her party leaders, she stated, “Allah kept me alive for a reason, and the day will come when those targeting Awami League members will be brought to justice.”
Hasina criticized Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, accusing him of exploiting the populace through high-interest microloans and living extravagantly abroad. She alleged that his “lust for power” has contributed to the current turmoil in Bangladesh.
She also expressed concern over the nation’s deteriorating situation, asserting that Bangladesh has transformed from a model of development into a “terrorist country,” with members of the Awami League, law enforcement, journalists, and artists being targeted.
Recounting the assassination of her family, including her father and Bangladesh’s first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina emphasized her commitment to seeking justice for those responsible for current atrocities. She assured her supporters of her impending return, stating, “I am coming.”
These statements come amid efforts by Bangladesh’s interim government to extradite Hasina from India, where she has been residing since her ousting in August 2024 following widespread protests.
