Over the past five years, more than 2,200 companies have packed up and moved their offices out of West Bengal to other states. This includes at least 39 listed companies across various sectors like manufacturing, finance, trading, and more.
These businesses say they moved for a mix of reasons—easier operations, better cost-efficiency, and a desire for more control over management. While we know they’re leaving, it’s still unclear exactly where they’re heading.
Of course, this has sparked a lot of political debate. The Trinamool Congress has slammed the whole inquiry, calling it “biased” and “anti-Bengal.” They’ve even pointed out that the report doesn’t mention how many new companies have registered in the state during the same time.
It’s definitely raising some eyebrows about West Bengal’s business climate and whether it’s still a competitive place for companies to thrive.
