New Delhi: In a sharp and unapologetic remark, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar took a dig at Europe’s so-called democratic values, accusing the West of turning a blind eye to authoritarianism—especially in Pakistan.
Speaking at a recent event, Jaishankar didn’t mince words:
“Nobody supported military dictatorships in Pakistan the way Western democracies did,” he said, questioning the moral high ground often claimed by European powers when it comes to global politics.
The comment comes at a time when India is increasingly pushing back against international criticism, especially from Western nations, over issues like human rights, democracy, and foreign policy alignment.
Jaishankar’s bluntness is nothing new—but this particular swipe highlights growing frustration in New Delhi over what it sees as hypocrisy in global diplomacy.
