What’s Going On
As of April 21, 2025, there’s no President’s Rule in West Bengal—but things are heating up, and the possibility is definitely being talked about more seriously than before.
A Quick Look at What’s Happening
Earlier this April, West Bengal—especially the Murshidabad district—was rocked by some intense communal unrest. It all kicked off during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Sadly, the violence turned deadly, leaving at least three people dead, many injured, and thousands forced to flee their homes.
There have also been some really disturbing reports—claims that women were molested and pushed out of their homes during the chaos. That’s obviously triggered a lot of outrage and concern across the board.
The Political Fallout
With emotions running high, some political leaders and groups are now openly pushing for President’s Rule in the state.
- Mithun Chakraborty, who you probably know better as a film star but is also a BJP leader these days, didn’t mince words. He called on the central government to step in, even saying the military should be deployed to make sure the elections stay fair.
- The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) also jumped in, demanding President’s Rule and accusing the state government of failing to protect the Hindu community during the violence.
What’s the Governor Saying?
Governor CV Ananda Bose has been out in the field—he visited Murshidabad himself to see what’s really going on. He acknowledged that the situation is pretty serious and that people are clearly scared.
Now, he hasn’t outright asked for President’s Rule, but he did say he’s keeping a close eye on everything and will be reporting back to the Centre.
So… Is It Going to Happen?
Right now, nothing’s official. But yeah, the talk around President’s Rule is louder than ever. Whether it actually happens will depend on how things unfold in the coming days—can the state get the situation under control, or will the pressure from opposition parties push the Centre to act?
