The Indus Waters Agreement were suspended, it would hit Pakistan’s agriculture hard, and I mean really hard. The river provides about 90% of the water needed for irrigation, so without it, we’re looking at a serious shortage. We could see food production drop by 90%, which is honestly terrifying. Crops like wheat, rice, and cotton would take a major hit, leading to all sorts of problems. Prices for food would skyrocket, inflation would go through the roof, and millions of people working in agriculture would be out of jobs. This would spark a full-blown food security crisis. We’d see shortages and hunger spreading, especially for the most vulnerable. On top of that, poverty would likely rise, possibly leading to protests or unrest. The environment wouldn’t be spared either—desertification and soil erosion would worsen. And, of course, the political tensions between India and Pakistan would escalate, making everything even more complicated. It’s clear that the disruption would cause major challenges for Pakistan, touching nearly every part of life.
