In a pretty tense turn of events, Pakistan has declared an emergency in Muzaffarabad after the Jhelum River suddenly swelled up. Officials over there are pointing fingers at India, claiming they let out a huge rush of water from the Uri Dam without giving any heads-up. Naturally, people living in places like Hattian Bala and Ghari Dupatta are on high alert, with evacuations already kicking off.
This whole mess comes right when tensions between India and Pakistan were already boiling over, especially after that deadly militant attack in Pahalgam. India’s blaming Pakistan for backing the attackers and, in response, even suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan, of course, is denying everything and accusing India of causing this water chaos instead. It’s a lot of back-and-forth right now, and honestly, things aren’t looking any calmer anytime soon.
