India has taken a bold step in advancing its indigenous fighter jet capabilities! Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to develop a 110 kN engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), marking a significant milestone in India’s defense self-reliance. This engine will be similar to the DRDO’s Kaveri engine but will incorporate modern advancements to meet the needs of the AMCA program.
This move aligns with India’s push for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) in defense manufacturing. The development of an indigenous jet engine has been a long-standing goal, with the Kaveri engine facing technical challenges. However, with L&T’s expertise and technological advancements, India is now closer to achieving a fully homegrown fighter jet engine.
This project will reduce India’s dependency on foreign engines like the GE F414 and Rolls-Royce EJ200 while enhancing its defense capabilities. If successful, it could also pave the way for India to become an exporter of jet engines in the future.
